Feed Barley Frequently Asked Questions
Practical answers for procurement, logistics and compliance teams evaluating bulk feed barley supply through Demetra Trading. Website information is general — executed contracts and Portal documents prevail.
Product
What is feed barley used for in commercial feed programs?
Feed barley provides fermentable energy and structural fibre in compound rations for cattle, dairy herds, poultry and other livestock. International buyers source it in bulk for mill intake, trading positions or integrated feed production.
How does feed barley differ from malting barley?
Malting barley is selected for brewing characteristics such as germination and enzyme activity. Feed barley is traded on nutritional and physical quality parameters relevant to animal feed — moisture, admixture, damage and mycotoxin limits — without malting-grade premiums.
Which origins can Demetra Trading supply?
Origin is confirmed in the commercial offer based on current allocation, crop quality and logistics. Russian and Black Sea origins may be available subject to those factors — not as a standing guarantee on every enquiry.
Is feed barley supplied in bags or bulk only?
Demetra Trading arranges bulk vessel or coaster shipments. Bagged presentation is not the default model for this product line.
Can specification limits be tailored to our feed mill?
Yes, within what the allocated origin and crop can achieve. Buyers should share target parameters and destination import rules early so the commercial offer reflects achievable contractual limits in the SPA.
Is GMO-free feed barley available?
Conventionally non-GM status is typical for Black Sea export barley programmes. Where a buyer requires a formal non-GMO declaration or testing, this is agreed in the offer and reflected in contract documents.
Quantity and Logistics
What is the typical minimum shipment size?
Enquiries from approximately 3,000 metric tonnes may be reviewed depending on route, terminal and allocation. Larger programmes up to roughly 65,000 MT are discussed when vessel class and discharge port permit.
Which Incoterms are available?
FOB, CFR and CIF are commonly structured. The exact term, risk transfer point and freight responsibility are stated in the commercial offer and SPA.
Which loading regions are used?
Loading may be arranged from Black Sea, Azov Sea and Baltic export corridors when origin, terminal acceptance and allocation permit. Port nomination is confirmed in the offer — website examples are illustrative.
What information is needed for a freight quotation?
Destination port, discharge rate and draft limits, quantity, shipment window or laycan, Incoterm preference, specification summary and any terminal or import constraints at discharge.
Can buyers nominate their own vessel under FOB?
Under FOB the buyer typically nominates acceptable tonnage subject to loading port restrictions and notice periods in the SPA. Feasibility is confirmed in the offer.
How long is the shipment window usually?
Laycan or shipment period is agreed per transaction — often a range of weeks within a crop marketing programme. It is binding only as stated in the executed SPA.
Are partial shipments allowed?
Partial shipment tolerance, if any, is defined in the SPA. Buyers should state whether split parcels are acceptable when submitting the purchase requirement.

Inspection and Documents
Is independent inspection available?
Yes. An internationally recognized inspection company is appointed per the SPA, commonly at the loading port. Scope covers quantity and quality against contractual methods.
Which export documents are typically provided?
Document sets vary by destination but often include Certificate of Quality, Certificate of Quantity, phytosanitary certificate, Certificate of Origin, weight certificate and independent inspection report. Additional certificates apply when contracted.
Are mycotoxin reports available?
When destination rules or the SPA require mycotoxin testing — for example aflatoxin or DON limits — laboratory reports are obtained per the agreed method and included in the documentary set.
Who appoints the inspection company?
Appointment follows the SPA. Buyers may propose an inspector subject to acceptance, scheduling and loading port feasibility.
What happens if quality is disputed at load port?
Hold, retest and rejection rights are defined in the SPA — not on this website. Funds may remain subject to escrow rules while disputes are addressed under contract.

Commercial Process
How do I start a feed barley enquiry?
Submit company data, destination, volume, Incoterm, specification needs and shipment window through the Demetra Trading commercial offer form linked from this website.
Does submitting an enquiry guarantee an offer?
No. Demetra Trading reviews each requirement against compliance, allocation and logistics. An offer is issued only when commercial terms can be structured acceptably.
Is FeedBarley.com a separate legal company?
No. FeedBarley.com is operated by Demetra Trading. Contracts, invoices and commercial offers are issued by the applicable Demetra Trading contracting entity.
What is the Trading Portal used for?
The Portal hosts SPA e-signature, proforma invoices, escrow funding instructions, document exchange and transaction status for accepted offers. Access is provided after commercial acceptance.
How long is a commercial offer valid?
Validity period is stated in each offer. Markets, freight and allocation can change — expired offers must be reconfirmed before contracting.
Can we use our own contract template?
Demetra Trading contracts on its SPA form for feed barley transactions. Material deviations are discussed case by case during offer negotiation.

Payment and Escrow
How are feed barley transactions funded?
Accepted transactions may use staged digital asset funding through a 2-of-3 multisignature escrow linked to SPA milestones. Currency, asset type and stages are defined in the offer and Portal card.
Where do I find payment wallet addresses?
Only inside the authenticated Demetra Trading Portal for your specific transaction. FeedBarley.com does not publish addresses and payment should not follow instructions from informal messaging.
Can the seller release escrow funds alone?
No. Escrow release requires two of three authorised multisignature approvals under the escrow rules and SPA.
Must the full contract value be funded at once?
Typically no. Funding is staged per milestones in the offer, SPA and Portal. Stage names, amounts and timing are transaction-specific.
Which digital assets and networks are accepted?
Specified in the commercial offer, SPA and Portal card for each deal. Stablecoins such as USDT or USDC may be used when agreed — always on the network shown in the Portal for that transaction.
Is digital asset escrow the same as a letter of credit?
No. It is a contractual multisignature escrow arrangement governed by the SPA and escrow rules — structurally different from bank-issued documentary credits.
Does a blockchain transaction mean the deal is complete?
Not necessarily. On-chain transfers confirm movement of digital assets; commercial completion depends on SPA milestones, documents and acceptance procedures.
What if a payment milestone is not met?
Cargo and document steps may not proceed until funding conditions are satisfied or the parties agree a contractual variation. Disputes follow SPA and escrow provisions.
